More Details
Officer Candidates
The session is recommending the following candidates for the offices of ruling elder and deacon:
ELDER: Drew Gess
DEACON: David Brearly, Josh Adams
Before the vote, we encourage you to spend time getting to know these men who, if elected, will be serving our church as leaders. Contact information for the candidates can be found in the IWC Directory. More information about the qualifications for elders and deacons can be found here.
Bylaw Changes
The motion: amend IWC bylaws VI, which currently allow for an officer to serve a second term without being elected. The effect of the proposed change would be that the congregation will vote on an officer serving their second term. See the current bylaw wording and the proposed changes below (changed sections bolded):
Current bylaw:
Ruling elders and deacons will serve for a term of (3) years, which may be renewed by mutual agreement of the officer and the Session once. After a maximum of (2) terms, ruling elders and deacons will not be eligible for election again for the duration of (1) year. This provision may be suspended, if the congregation deems it appropriate, by a 4/5 vote of the congregation, in which case the officer may be elected to an additional (1) year term
Proposed bylaw change:
Ruling elders and deacons will serve for a term of (3) years, which may be renewed by election of the officer by the congregation once. After a maximum of (2) terms, ruling elders and deacons will not be eligible for election again for the duration of (1) year. This provision may be suspended, if the congregation deems it appropriate, by a 4/5 vote of the congregation, in which case the officer may be elected to an additional (1) year term
