Thank you for serving in the nursery this weekend! Please review the basic nursery policies below.

You can find more detailed information about nursery policy and procedure in the Nursery Volunteer Policies & Procedures booklet (a hard copy is available in the binder kept in the nursery).

If you have any questions, contact Annika Griffith or Sheyna Land.

Nursery Basics

  1. Arrive around 10:10. Please wear the "Volunteer" lanyards hanging just inside the nursery doors. The setup team will set up the checkin kiosks, so you shouldn't have to worry about any intensive setup.

  2. Two adults must be present with children during the service at all times. The only exception is when one of the volunteers needs to accompany a child to the restroom. The remaining teacher should stay in the view of the camera and not change any diapers until the other volunteer has returned.

  3. If you are serving with a volunteer of the opposite gender, all toileting is same-gendered—i.e., men change boy diapers, women change girl diapers (and the same rule applies to restroom trips). If two women are scheduled, you'll be taking care of both the girls and boys.

  4. At dropoff, be sure that all kids have been checked in. Send parents back to a checkin kiosk (located at the kids table or the nursery) to check them in if they arrive without a nametag label on their back.

  5. If a child is new to you, check their name tag for bathroom permissions and allergies. If you think they might be new to the church, verbally confirm those items with the parents.

  6. We have goldfish crackers and raisins available as snacks for the kids. Raisins are the allergy-friendly snack. These are in a labeled bin in the cubbies in the nursery "lobby" area right inside the doors. They can be given out as you see fit (e.g., to stop a child from crying, or given to every child with a snack permission at once, etc.). Make sure you know a child doesn't have allergies (check their name label on their back) before giving them a snack.

  7.  Text the child's parent if—
    - a child is crying for more than 7 minutes
    - if a child has received 3 timeouts for the same, persistent behavior
    - if bathroom assistance permission has not been extended and the child needs a diaper change or a bathroom trip.

  8. If you aren't familiar with a parent who comes to pick up a child, ask them for the guardian receipt and make sure the code matches the code on the kid's name tag label.
