Music Team
Thanks for your interest in serving in the music ministry at Iron Works. We have a lot of fun creating together on Sundays and shepherding the people through the dialogue of worship. As a team, we really value collaborating, appreciating what everyone brings to the table, and encouraging one another. In that vein, please fill out this form to help me get to know you better so we can make sure the team will be a good fit.
Audition Materials
The best way to get acquainted with you as a musician is to prepare a few song and play together. Choose one from each category: Hymn, Chorus/Hospitality, and Hymn Retune. For at least one of the songs, choose something you know really well, for another, choose something that would be new to you so we can see how it goes learning something new. Some song ideas would be:
HYMN
Traditional Hymns, adapted to a band setting. Here are some examples.
How Firm a Foundation (Norton Hall Band, Hymns of the People and Fernando Ortega all have good versions)
Come Thou Fount (Lots of good versions out there, Jadon Lavik’s is nice)
All Creatures of Our God and King (We like the version by Norton Hall Band)
O Worship the King (Jeremy Moore)
Be Thou My Vision (many versions out there, here is a nice one by Audrey Assad)
Chorus & Hospitality Songs
These would be songs people are more likely to know either from radio or because they are accessible & current.
10,000 Reasons (Matt Redman)
Before the Throne (Modern Post has a cool version)
In Christ Alone (lots of good ones out there, here’s one)
Behold Our God (Sovereign Grace)
How Deep the Father’s Love for Us (skip the bit of percussion at the beginning, we like this version by Chelsea Moon)
Here I Am to Worship
CityAlight has some good ones like: Only a Holy God | Saved My Soul | Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me | Christ is Mine Forevermore
HYMN RETUNE & Less well-known
These are less well-known and could be a good opportunity to see how learning something new might go. Think bands like Indelible Grace, Sandra McCracken, Red Mountain and Porters Gate)
Come Ye Sinners (Indelible Grace or Worship Initiative)
We Will Feast in the House of Zion (Sandra McCracken)
Psalm 130 (Indelible Grace)
We are Not Overcome (Porter’s Gate)
Hast Thou Heard Him, Seen Him, Known Him (Indelible Grace)
Approach My Soul the Mercy Seat (IWC Music)
Lead Sheets &/or chord sheets are available from Becky. Keep in mind, we won’t necessarily do the same keys as these recordings so being flexible on the key can be important.
