Prelude

be thou my vision

Mary Elizabeth Byrne and Eleanor Henrietta Hull

VERSE 1
Be Thou my vision,
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me,
Save that Thou art
Thou my best thought,
By day or by night.
Waking or sleeping,
Thy presence my light

VERSE 2
Be Thou my wisdom,
Be Thou my true Word
I ever with Thee and
Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father
and I Thy true son
Thou in me dwelling
and I with Thee one

VERSE 4
Riches I heed not,
nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance
now and always
Thou and Thou only
first in my heart
High King of heaven
my treasure Thou art

VERSE 5
High King of heaven
my victory won
May I reach heaven's joys
O bright heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart
whatever befall
Still be my vision,
O Ruler of all

Greeting

Craig Newcomb, Elder

LEADER: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
ALL: And also with you!

Call to Worship

John 1:1-5, 14

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. . .

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Song of Adoration

COME BEHOLD THE WONDROUS MYSTERY

Matt Boswell, Matt Papa, and Michael Bleecker

VERSE 1
Come behold the wondrous myst'ry
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven's praises
Robed in frail humanity

In our longing in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

VERSE 2
Come behold the wondrous myst'ry
He the perfect Son of Man
In His living in His suff'ring
Never trace nor stain of sin

See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law in Him we stand

VERSE 3
Come behold the wondrous myst'ry
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory

See the price of our redemption
See the Father's plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured love untold

VERSE 4
Come behold the wondrous myst'ry
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e'er restrain Him
Praise the Lord He is alive

What a foretaste of deliv'rance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when He comes

Sermon: Covenant Lovemaking

Song of Songs 7:6-10, 8:6-10 | Rev. Dr. Sam Andreades

he

How beautiful and pleasant you are,
O loved one, with all your delights!
Your stature is like a palm tree,
and your breasts are like its clusters.
I say I will climb the palm tree
and lay hold of its fruit.
Oh may your breasts be like clusters of the vine,
and the scent of your breath like apples,
and your mouth like the best wine.

She

It goes down smoothly for my beloved,
    gliding over lips and teeth.

10 I am my beloved's,
and his desire is for me. . .

Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very flame of the Lord.
Many waters cannot quench love,
    neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his house,
    he would be utterly despised.

Others

We have a little sister,
    and she has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day when she is spoken for?
If she is a wall,
we will build on her a battlement of silver,
but if she is a door,
we will enclose her with boards of cedar.

She

10 I was a wall,
    and my breasts were like towers;
then I was in his eyes
    as one who finds peace.

LEADER: This is the Word of the Lord.
ALL: Thanks be to God!

Sending Song

in heavenly love abiding

Anna Laetitia Waring, Rebekah Olson

VERSE 1
In heavenly love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here
The storm may roar around me,
My heart may be low laid
But God is round about me,
How can I be dismayed?

VERSE 2
Wherever He may guide me,
No want shall turn me back
My Shepherd is beside me,
And nothing can I lack
His wisdom ever waketh,
His sight is never dim
He knows the way He taketh
and I will walk with Him
I'll walk with Him

VERSE 4
Green pastures are before me
which yet I have not seen
Bright skies will soon be o'er me
where darkest clouds have been
My hope I cannot measure,
My path to life is free
My Savior has my treasure
and He will walk with me
He'll walk with me, He'll walk with me
He'll walk with me, He'll walk with me
